Dean’s Message

Faculty of Science - University of Peradeniya

It gives me immense pleasure to write few words to the Google Site to be released on the Youth for Climate Action Volunteer Climate Action Group, organized by the Department of Botany, Faculty of Science, University of Peradeniya. I greatly appreciate the staff and students’ effort in achieving development resilience to Climate Change and climate smart innovations.

Empowerment of students for their all-round development through education is our cherished motto. Today education means much more than merely acquiring knowledge. Education is acquisition of knowledge and skills, building character and improving soft skills of our young generation. Organization of activities of this nature also helps the students develop skills that are essential to face future challenges. Steps taken by the Department of Botany, contributions willingly made by the members and overwhelming response and enthusiastic participation of students in the recent past immensely contributed to the success of programmes of this nature. When all the constituents come together and work in unison, the expected results are bound to flow.

I am proud of being the Dean of the Faculty which organizes this event for the wellbeing of the society. While wishing the event every success, I do hope that this will continue in the future.

Head's Message

Department of Botany - Faculty of Science - University of Peradeniya

I am delighted to write a message to the Google site launched by the climate action volunteer group, steered by the department of Botany, Faculty of Science, University of Peradeniya.

Climate change would be the significant challenge face by the humankind during this century. We are already facing the consequences of climate change. Lack of knowledge of general public on climate change issues and lack of interaction between climate change working groups are the biggest obstacles in addressing the problems related to climate change. Sharing information on causes, consequences and migratory measures between stake holders and general public is an important approach in addressing climate change. Thus, I am really happy that the youth of our university have planned for addressing this gap and it is great pleasure for me to support this important action as the head of the Department of Botany.
